- Great Children~ I am excited about having your child in my class and getting to know them. We, as parents and teacher, will work together to support their best learning! I welcome communication. Email and notes are best for non-emergency information, as I am so busy with students, it is difficult for me to take phone calls during the school day.
- Dismissal: Parents must pick up students the first week of school at 11:30. Parents meet us at bottom of steps at back porch of Ms. Kyler’s room, facing the big playground. If someone different is going to pick up your child, you must send a letter in writing in child’s folder. Anyone who picks up your child should be in the office/290 form. They will need to show their driver’s license. Please make plans in advance, and let the teacher know in writing. Last minute calls are not acceptable. We will give parents a paper with your child’s name which you will bring each day to pick up your child the first week. Be prepared to show your identification at pick up week one (11:30).
- Contact Information: Please make sure that we have correct contact numbers for you, including a local (512) phone number where we can reach you. It is difficult to call long distance/other area codes from our classroom phones. If your numbers change, be sure to let us (myself and the office) know as soon as possible.
- Lunch: Lunch is available for all Pre-K students in the cafeteria However, we recommend bringing a lunch in a lunchbox or bag from home in the beginning if your child has a special diet or is extremely particular about what they eat. Our lunch time is at 10:55 a.m. We will also be having lunch the first, staggered start week of half days. Family must be on 290 form in order to visit student at lunch (not recommended until child is established in the school routine).
- Healthy Habits: This hot time of year, it is wise to send a full water bottle marked with your child’s name on it. This is easier for the students and more hygienic. Please make sure that lunches or snacks are healthy. No candy or sodas at school. Lunch should be balanced. Limit sugary foods. If a student comes to school with only cookies and/or donuts, etc… for lunch, student will have to get a lunch from the cafeteria. All lunch boxes and backpacks should have your child’s name.
- Hygiene: Please practice handwashing and restroom hygiene at home with your child as it is necessary that they can do this independently at school. They will need to use toilet paper, flush the toilet and wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after each visit to the restroom.
- Snacks: You may send a healthy snack (like an apple, pretzels, goldfish) for your child, if you think that your child will eat one in the afternoon. This is optional. Please be aware, many students choose not to eat their snack because they would prefer to do classroom activities and wait until they are home to have a snack. No sticky, messy or sugary items please (no jello, pudding, candy, capri sun, yogurt, punch, etc...) to avoid ants/other bugs.
- Calendars: We will send home a folder everyday with a calendar and other information. The calendar will show child’s behavior for the day as well.
- Blankets: Your child may send a small blanket* or towel for rest time, starting the first long day. These must be small because they stay in your child’s backpack, and room is needed for other things. Label with name.
- Buses: Pre-K children may NOT ride the bus in the morning. Students who will be ride bus home after school, need to be comfortable and able to handle being on their own. The only adult on the bus is one bus driver. Students who take bus will need two bus tags filled out and given to teacher within the first week so that teachers can laminate them. Please let your teacher know in advance if child will be riding the bus. Parents must be waiting at bus stop in order for driver to drop off student. You may want to arrange to car pool with other parents in Pre-K if needed.
- Attendance: It is important for your child to be at school if they are well. If your child is sick, please keep them at home. Green discharge from nose, heavy and continuous coughing, diarrhea, vomiting and fever are all reasons to be absent. Your child will need to be symptom-free for 24 hours without medication. This will be excused by writing a note explaining your child’s illness. Vacations are unexcused absences. Please plan your trips for breaks.
- Curriculum: We have an AISD curriculum and guidelines that we are teaching in our classrooms, including math, pre-reading, writing, science, social studies, personal development, physical skills, communication, vocabulary, ELL, themes and so much more. We will work on rules, routines, social skills from day 1. You will receive a daily schedule after school starts.
- Parking: There is absolutely no parking in the front/circle driveway any time. This is a fire lane! The parking lot is limited space for staff members.
